Is there someway to switch out a file in an existing post or would i realy have to make a new post?

You have to make a new one.

Make a new one, set the old one as a child to the new one, then flag the old one as a duplicate. If it's within 48 hours, use the 48 hours reason (Or alert the original uploader to) and enter "Better/updated version found" or something along those lines, that way the deleted count doesn't apply.

actually, that's done automatically when something is flagged for that reason iirc.

Nope, you still have to enter the parent post's ID. It auto-fills it for you if you already set the parent, but if you haven't, you have to do it anyways right there.
