Topic: So is cub art not allowed on here anymore?

Posted under General

I cant find any rule change on it but all of it seems to have been deleted. If this is so, where is another site to go?

I had thought that this site was immune to the "I don't like something you like, so I am going to attack you."

I can view my cub art fine and a bunch others so I don't know what you're talking about. e6 usually accepts both safe and explicit cub unlike FN which had to drop it due to the influx of stupid anti-cub users from FA when it got hacked.

Trending Tags does not list the total number of posts under a tag, it only lists how many posts from the last 24 hours have that tag. cub still has around 32000 posts.

That's correct. Cub is at 32,429 posts, not 300.

https://e621.net/post/index/1/cub

? + – cub 300
? + – young 300
? + – mammal 290
? + – anthro 272
? + – male 254
? + – clothing 165
? + – blush 164
? + – canine 153
? + – penis 153

The description of trending tags doesn't make sense at all (I doubt "cub" and "young" have been used exactly 300 times in 24 hours). Is trending tags broken, or just my understanding of what it is?

The "Trending Tags" system is really.... weird. It's not actually a trend at all. The correct title for that section would be "Related Tags". It collects tags from your input, finds posts with those tags, randomizes the order, collects a number of posts(in this case it appears to be 300, but it is based off of how many posts are under the tags), and it sums how many time tags across that set of posts appear, and then presents the tags with the highest counts. It's a rough "what other tags appear in images that I searched for."

So the number next to each post is the number of posts that contain that tag from the sampled posts.

It has always been showing 300 for as long as I remember.

Except in the main index, where it just lists the most common tags. As for searches, it's usually 300 for me, but I thought that it simply matches the number of thumbnails on the page..

Anyway, I've never understood why that feature even exists. Seems like waste of server resources for no evident purpose. It's not even all that useful for discovering new interesting tags, because the top results are usually ones such as 'mammal', 'clothing' and 'hair'.

If it were up to me, I'd rather have the tag cloud back. At least it was kind of interesting to see which tags were actually trending up each month, etc.

Short answer:

Cub is still allowed.

I would be strongly dissappointed if any fetish gets forbidden here.

indeed and that would likely give e621 a dark spot on its history. possibly with one of those mass exodus things other art sites are known for when something like that happens.

I tend to agree with you on this. It's both poorly labeled, and when I asked around among friends, they said they used it "once or twice." For the amount of work that goes into generating and caching those lists, it doesn't seem like the best thing out there. Offering some kind of better exploration feature would be much better. Filtering out very common tags would be an interesting approach to it, but then again, doing that for the tag cloud might be effort better spent.

Just for reference, OP, the easiest way to get a count of posts tagged with X is to look up the tag in the wiki . I won't claim this is intuitive, because it is certainly not.

More obviously but approximately, you can look at any relevant post/index page , note the final page number (102, for me who uses a page-size of 320), and multiply by your page-size.

That's even less intuitive. Why would you ever do a tag search when you know exactly what tag you're looking for?

It straight up tells you the details about it without the extra fluff to get in the way.

I've always found searching tags to be easier than searching the wiki.

Agreed. The wiki you have to run a search than click through to the page, but the tags lets you go straight to the posts list or to the wiki page if wanted, while also telling you the tag type and post count right there in front of you.
