Topic: Discrepancy between

Posted under General

I got all butthurt when my posts were removed, but I think I know why now and have gotten over my anal pain. They were Skyrim posed shots with texture mods etc. and I felt they weren't all that bad - but were deleted for not meeting quality standards. At least that's what it indicated when I tried to display them.

However, I think now I see the real reason. On the Posting Guildlines https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=uploading_guidelines it says this:

Bad things to upload:
Screen captures: Screenshots from games, still images from movies, video snippets from youtube, etc. etc

But on the Avoid Posting list here:
https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=avoid_posting
it doesn't mention that restriction.

Now I have seen Skyrim captures here, but I'll be the first to admit they are mostly far and away more unique than mine were. This is probably the most borderline I've found.

For that matter, there's plenty of GMOD stuff that frankly looks godawful IMHO which also seems like it would fall under that category.

Anyway, I'm over my butthurt now and fine with it. Maybe someday I'll have something that may be exceptional enough to warrant and I'll try again. But I do think it would be good to update the Avoid Posting to mention screenshots so as to be consistent anyway. I understand the reasoning, even if I may not totally agree with it - but your playground, your rules.

There is no discrepancy. the avoid posting or DNP page is for listing artists whose are is not to be uploaded.

I don't mean to sound argumentative, but this is copied directly from the Avoid Posting page and this has nothing to do with DNP list:

Avoid posting these things.
New commercial content (Doujin, paysites, etc.). If it's less than two years old, don't post it. This includes HD versions only visible on Patreon.
"Free" Pay-What-You-Want content (meaning you can buy it for $0.00) is DNP for 2 months after having been made available for "free" ***NEW***
Real porn / real images or videos depicting illegal activities (such as bestiality, child pornography, etc.)
Images where a person who is not the original copyright owner has placed a watermark on the image.
Excessive webcomic rips (more than 5 or more consecutive webcomic pages)
Images where compression artifacts are easily visible.
Art featuring only humans or primarily humans. Any form of bestiality with humans or humans with animal traits (things like cat ears or dog tails) are still okay.
Content that is not furry or furry-related. We may still approve it if it's high quality or "special" in some way, but it's still much more likely to be deleted than approved.

I was just pointing out that the Avoid Posting page lists some things you shouldn't post - but it doesn't mention screenshots. And thus it should be updated to mention those too.

I'd read the Avoid Posting page prior to posting my screenshots, but it didn't mention screenshots as being unacceptable. So to avoid confusion it would be best to add a mention of that to the Avoid Posting page as well as Posting Guidelines page.

That's all. Just a suggestion. I'll say no more on the subject.

Posted 2 years ago, which is practically ancient history by now. The rules are honed all the time, and anything older than a few months is not worth bringing up in discussions such as this. Those were posted under old outdated rules.

I have noted this discrepancy about the "Avoid posting these things." list. A quick fix would be to put a link to uploading_guidelines at the end of the list.

Makes sense. Just trying to explain why I thought it was ok. I saw other screenshots, I saw nothing in the avoid posting page against it, so I posted. I'm really just trying to be helpful here and explain why someone might do what I did, not knowing there is a problem with it. Lance's suggestion is a good one. Would prevent newbies like me from getting butthurt by just not knowing the rules.
