Topic: Refsheet Takedowns

In the past few days, a number of people have asked me to take down ref sheets for their OCs. Is this common? Did I commit some sort of furry faux pas by submitting ref sheets? Artists and commissioners, help me understand so I don't fuck up again.

I saw one of the takedowns and it flabbergasted me why anyone would care to take it down. Yes, I have read the "reason" for it.

From what I see here it is only 2 images, from one "character owner", lipton. One single takedown request, takedown #3917. The reason is given in the takedown. Are you saying there has been more? I saw other images, all connected to lipton apparently, with the exception of post #769989

Some artist might prefer you to ask before you submit their art here, and some prefer you to not post certain artworks here since they'd prefer viewers to look at their webpage instead.

OCs may also hold importance to the artist(s), as they wouldn't like them to be drawn without their permission (cause they like own them).

Just watch out for the avoid posting list.

(c) Anonymous Works, Pseudonymous Works, and Works Made for Hire. — In the case of an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, the copyright endures for a term of 95 years from the year of its first publication, or a term of 120 years from the year of its creation, whichever expires first.

In the year 2110, aliens will be able to fap and roleplay to original characters drawn in 2015, and there's nothing the United States Copyright Office can do about it.

Circa Stardate 2135, the aliens can publish the artwork they are currently downloading from our hacked computers using advanced scanning technologies. That's right, all the porn is in orbit.

In this instance its NOT the artist, the artist doesn't care, its the Character Owner complaining about it, its very important to distinct between the two.

Yeah, exactly. I've had a few instances where the character owners have personally contacted me on e621 or furaffinity to have me takedown/request takedown of an image.

I've experienced this too, with Yuurikin taking down one particular piece of artwork of a certain owner's character (forgot who it was) I had uploaded, because said person didn't want his ref sheet posted outside FA. All the other stuff featuring him (even that drawn by Yuurikin) could apparently stay here just fine. Now that's not what Yuuri explicitely told, but considering everything else wasn't taken down I'm assuming that's the case.

Weird. Not sure what the reasoning behind this is. Of course ref sheets actually serve a purpose to character owners, but to me and many other people it's just another nice picture, except with character information. Which is neat.

If people are actually going to steal your character's design, they'd probably do so without the help of E6 too.

Opps, well I completely forgot some people don't make their own oc art.

I'm going to keep uploading art then, including quality ref sheets. Maybe this was just a fluke.

I promise that as soon as my refsheet happens, you will be the one to upload it. Now I just need to either get Robbie off his ass and get him to finish my refsheet or raise enough money to commission a refsheet from someone else. Probably fek, if I can.

It happens occasionally but it's not really predictable (btw ref sheets aren't the only posts this happens with). If you want to avoid takedowns I'd just send them a quick polite note asking them permission to repost it here. Many have no problems with you uploading stuff, but you will probably have better luck if you mention that you are linking their page as a spurce and that you aren't trying to claim the artwork/character as your own or use for roleplaying or anything (the mindset here is a bit different from sites like FA).
