Topic: How exactly do I upload an animation?

Posted under General

So! An artist I rather like uploaded an animation I rather like on Pixiv, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to upload it here.

Here is the animation: http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=53598141

Clicking "V" seems to lead to a bigger version of it, but I can't figure out how to actually get a permanent link to that bigger version. I also can't seem to find out any way to upload the animation.

This is probably a really dumb question and there's some obvious answer I'm missing, but I'll admit, I'm stumped.

Note - I don't actually care if someone else uploads this instead of me, so feel free to do that if you wish. I just thought it would maybe be something I should know for the future.

This thread may have your answer but I don't use pixiv: https://e621.net/forum/show/169987

The thread is also a sticky

Hm. Well. To be fair if I had figured out how to upload it, I'd have realized it had already been uploaded. I always triple-check to make sure a piece of art hasn't already been uploaded before I submit it. But I'm surprised that it didn't appear in any of my regular searches all the same!

Anyway, thank you for the advice. I looked all over for this information, but that sticky was apparently not one of the places. It seems like "how to upload an image" might be linked on one of the help or wiki pages related to the subject.

Anyhoo, I'm tired, so probably rambling at this point, but again, I appreciate the help.

Privileged

Animated submissions on Pixiv are called "Ugoira animations". They are archives of JPGs played as a flipbook using Javascript. A proprietary format of sorts; There is no direct way of saving the animation from Pixiv without tools.

To convert the animation to a WebM or GIF, here's an online tool that uses the submission URL as an input: http://ugoira.dataprocessingclub.org (Currently not working, but it was what I used on post #769372 and many others.)

WebM is generally the preferred output format for the animations because they're already compressed to begin with (again: they're archives of JPGs), but GIF can be ideal for shorter animations.

To download the archive of frames:
Run a bookmark containing "javascript:window.location = pixiv.context.ugokuIllustFullscreenData.src;" (without quotation marks) while viewing a Pixiv Animation to download the archive.
