The same reason you see living aircraft on this site. Animate inanimates are in-scope.

Also, run-n-guns aren't easy games to win, especially if you're trying for a 1CC, let alone a no-miss.

The thing is, anyone who plays run-and-guns religiously will tell you that the genre in and of itself is fairly difficult to begin with, let alone 1CC'ing or no-missing a title. Contra, Metal Slug, Shock Troopers, Silhouette Mirage are all examples of the genre, and all are rather difficult to clear.

The same thing applies to fighting games and shmups (bullet-hells especially), though those two genres also test memory as well as reflexes.
