Did you really want it to become like Adventure Time?

For artistic sake it's better to end the show than to let it drag on forever and suffer from what I call 'Soap Opera syndrome'. You start running out of ideas so you start introducing badly conceived characters, shipping people together no matter how much they don't match or how anti social they are, get characters married, sending them back to school, having clashes between exs, giving people siblings they somehow never mentioned before etc.

basically everything they can dig out of the cliche drama barrel to squeeze out a few more seasons despite that it is obvious the the show has reached it's peak. It was already heading far into that territory and that is when you stop especially with comedies

I know but if they only kept on with like a couple more episodes introducing the new characters

I thought they had another season because of the ending, and potential for another movie (which I can see issues with).

But I think if you makes the series have a storyline to it, like the last one with Rigby's Graduation and the Dome, then it'll work out better. I think it does, and South Park does it well.

And think of other shows that end up with a completely different production staff or whatever, like Dexters Lab, the last installment was the worst, I know there have been others, like Adventure Time, there have been more, many many more, Loony Toons comes to mind too.

Adventure Time hasnt run its course YET.
You mean you dont want it to become more like Spongebob and Fairy Odd Parents.

Wut. As far as I understand, season 5 and onwards is where Adventure Time starts to get really, really, really good, even despite how great some episodes prior to that are already.

I think Playfur is right, those are probably closer. That said, I agree that it's better to end a show in it's prime (or at least shortly after) and let the people behind it work on new things with renewed creative energy rather than letting it die slowly over time until becomes like a walking corpse, devoid of the soul and personality that made it so appealing in the first place.
A lot of the cartoons which are and have been airing on Cartoon Network recently are great, but I don't believe them to be so very supremely unequaled that nothing more can be achieved by allowing artists to deviate from their own track record and work on something new.
