i actually remember that show? eh...i'll pass on this one.

like Ren & Stimpy? which, and you can find this on youtube, has an origin story episode for the titular characters that was so bad that even the people who worked to make the show strongly disliked. let's just say the physical and psychological animal cruelty aspects were cranked up to eleven. i got curious and watched it once before and for a cartoon, that was hard to watch. if i had to rate the lvl of cringe of that episode alone, i would say painfully cringey for the horrible things those 2 went through. :/

and i also remembered an obscure SNES game just now called Rendering Ranger R2. despite the odd name, it's actually quite well done. made by the same guy who created the turrican series, it features lots and lots of pre-rendered assets and is actually a multi-genre game which is something not seen very often on SNES.

for the most part it's your typical platforming shooter but for a good chunk of the game you play it as a sidescrolling space shooter and the controls get changed as well. one of the more notable aspects of the space shooter section was, for at least 1 boss fight, you could change which direction your ship is facing left/right. on top of that, you have access to several different color coded weapons to choose from and power up from collecting...power-ups. and you can switch between them freely at any time too.

for an obscure SNES game it's surprisingly well made. even the final boss has at least 3-4 phases. though...the plot isn't well explained until after you beat said final boss and some epilogue text appears but that's not all that uncommon for the game gen.

oh and iirc your bombs recharge so...yeah, have fun with this game. :) just remember to not rush things. it's not like ninja gaiden where you have endlessly respawning shit storms coming out of the wood work. you can take things fairly slowly for the most part. at least until the end where OMG WHY IS THAT WALL MOVING SO FAST?! O_O RUN FASTER!

yeah, got a few surprises in the final lvl but nothing too bad. i wouldn't say it's Dr. Wily laser trap bad. and i think we all know how bad those were.

I don't think Ren and Stimpy is rare

Rendering Ranger R2? never heard of it and yup that looks very 90's lol
the style got that realistic pre-render look the 90's try to do alot back then

i think Jewel Master (genesis) was another lesser known title. not much info on it really though that's partly because sega didn't give it a credits section after the final boss. it just shows the epilogue then resets. it's a decent platformer though and the ring mechanic was fairly unique for the time i think. you unlock 3 tiers of 4 elemental rings which you could mix and match for various spells. of course, once you have all 4 tier 3 rings you can summon the sword of light or whatever it's called which is game breakingly OP. in fact, the 2nd form of the boss you get the 4th tier 3 ring from can be beaten in a mere 2-4 shots from the sword. enough damage to kill it before the 2nd fight even begins.

i don't remember. was The Ooze an obscure genesis game?

Porn parodies reminded me of Gerald Damiano's Let My Puppets Come short film.

Incidentally, Damiano was actually friends with Jim Henson (who created Kermit and The Muppet Show). Entertainment industry has got a lot more prudish since the 70s.

LOL exploding tigers, gheese everything explodes back then.
They had so much explosions back then
It would make Michael Bay jealous

i just remembered something. have any of you ever seen Creepshow? Creepshow intro/outro

lol always loved seeing that intro/outro with the Creep. :) it's creepy with a haunting melody yet not necessarily scary. well, not by today's standards. i'm sure it was pretty scary back when it was first released.

here's the full version of that music used in the credits.

edit: i just remembered something else that is even CREEPIER than creepshow. mainly because this actually happened.

have any of you ever heard or read about the 'Phillip Experiment'?

apparently the researchers involved managed to cause...something to manifest which led to a string of strange and creepy occurences as a result of the experiment. iirc it all came to an abrupt end when, after a while, one of the researchers involved told "Phillip" this: You are not real!

and just like that, all the strange things that were happening stopped. makes you wonder though... what exactly was "Phillip"? a ghost or spirit? or perhaps it was merely a strong manifestation of the researchers own fear and paranoia of the unknown... regardless, it makes for an interesting story and topic for discussion.

nope, my mistake. phillip was the original and this 2nd experiment.

I own Creep Show on dvd
one of my favorite films, to bad the sequels were so and so.

But Trick R' Treat reminded me of Creep Show and it was one of my other fave

'Phillip Experiment'? this looks familiar but I never seen it,
I much have watch part of it? but a very long time ago, and just forgotten about it.

Partially. Growing up, I played NES, SNES, and N64 instead of PlayStation or Sega. So that's a huge factor in why I'm biased towards Nintendo as opposed to other consoles. I've never really had much desire to own other consoles. And to this day, my favorite games are on the N64 and SNES.

Dusk_To_Dawn said:

well, it was my or rather my aunt & uncles console but the first i played games on. i haven't played much NES in years though. even after getting into the wonderful world of emulation i still never bothered with it all that much.

i'd love to try emulating some sega dreamcast or saturn games but those tend to be annoying to setup. iirc the emulator i last tried saturn games on was kinda weird in the some games would work with some versions of the emulator but not other versions.

hmmm...i wonder what kind of system requirements dreamcast games might require to emulate.

I played Dragon Warrior. I never beat it because it uses the name to determine stat growth. While naming yourself LOTO or Erdrick, the Japanese/English Canon name for the protagonist's grandfather, gives you the best possible stats, it turns out using my real life name gave me the worst possible stat growth. I actually checked. It uses a formula for the letters. I proved it just in case. I had no chance in Hell.

Sounds like a pretty interesting game, my introduction to gaming was Super Mario Bros. 3, good times :).

Hyper Police
A series about an universe of humans and monsters co-existing
in a future/"modern" time theme.
The main heroine is Natsuki a half human and half cat demon.
who is a cop who is fighting and protecting her city
who is abit clumsy at her job.

(The manga was made in 1993 and continue to 2004.
there was a anime series too, but it never finish the story,
only the manga wrapped everything up.

The Manga also had more risque things then the anime too,
like nudity, strong language and darker themes.)

Remembered one that most folks here probably have never even heard of:
Scorch, a sitcom with a dragon in it.

And if you're wondering what children's cartoons used to be like, here's Doctor Snuggles. That episode was written by Douglas Adams. (If you actually try watching it, watch the whole thing. It gets... odd.)

Despite being a 90's child, there's tons of fascinating old hardware and DOS game retrospectives on the Lazy Game Reviews channel.

I've binged on those videos starting from about 1/3rd of the way through the second official playlist (when production and presentation hit a happy medium). I'd would definitely recommend a watch if you like a clean, conversational, but also bitingly witty style.

JBVO. That was an interesting show. By the way, the legendary Namek episode is real. Saw it as a kid.

Here's one I've yet to meet anyone with fond (or any, for that matter) memories of. In 2002 Animal Planet tried to air a sitcom called Beware of Dog. Only two episodes were ever aired and they were only played on the premiere night.

legendary namek... are you by any chance referring to that super namekian from dragon ball xenoverse 2? i've never seen the movie he's from but he is one powerful warrior.
