How can I delete comments I've made on some posts?

In category: General

I'm new and I want to know if its possible, how to delete a comment I posted on an image. I found something in help:API section "/comment/destroy.xml", but i don't get how to use it or if its even the right thing to use to delete a comment...

dont think you can.. (maybe mods can delete comments)
You can hide it however.. just click hide under the comment.

Unfortunately, you will still be able to see it, and will forever regret the thing you wrote :(

i think we've all done something like this at some point. all that can be done is to down vote such mistakes to oblivion.

Only mod+ can actually delete comments, you can always hide them though.

Mod+ can still see them, but it hides them from other members. Also note that if you've been quoted by someone it won't hide that, the user who quoted you would have to hide it (we won't hide their comment for you, but you can try to PM that user and ask them nicely).

Under your settings uncheck Show hidden comments/blips. It doesn't change how other users see it, but it will hide them entirely from your own view (unless you check the box again of course).

Funny story. When I first became mod I was really confused about why I couldn't see hidden comments, but just assumed it was in a tool somewhere elsewhere on the site. It took almost a month for me to figure out that that box hides other people's hidden comments as well as your own. :V

You will still remember it however... :(

Why doesn't this website integrate comment deletion?

It has comment deletion. You simply cannot use it as a normal user.

yes before is not our e621.net but admin and mod to have creat this rule allowed/or/no allowed

to be honest, I find it disturbing that most users cannot delete their own comments.

I am not gonna judge the site's rules, but I did state my opinion about this.

You can always hide comments. Click the hide button and it isn't publicly viewable anymore.

Well... let's look at this functionally:

You can remove one of your comments so no one can see it, except you and the administration.

That's deletion, isn't it?

The only things that make it different from deletion is that it's not called deletion, you can still see it unless you take an extra step, and mods can see it.

Of course mods should be able to see it--there's all kinds of chaos to be had by saying things, then being able to pretend you didn't. "Oh no, not me. *I* didn't break the rules. I bet someone is just trying to get me in trouble again..."

As for you seeing it, well... that is a bit odd, but it's nice if you accidentally hit the button, or wanted to edit your post to phrase something a bit differently. Or if you deleted everything in a fit of personal emotion, then regretted it later.. or.. or.. or...

The biggest "problem" with hiding comments is that it's not called deletion. If it was called deletion, people probably wouldn't have a problem with it.

I mean.. perhaps I'm over looking something, Fujimaru, but why is it 'disturbing' that people cannot delete their own comments? saying something is disturbing without elaborating doesn't do a very good job of protesting the rules. offer some reasons why this is your opinion.

since on other sites people tend to tell me they never said what i'm quoting, i think it's good we can only hide and not delete. that way if they try that stunt here, it won't go well for them.

Unless someone has already quoted it, in which case there's pretty much nothing that can be done to hide it.

I have a question: why I can't see one of my hidden post in my comments page?

I can see my hidden reply in the post but not shown my reply in the comments page; I have the option "show hidden comments" checked.

That's intentional. Why would you want to see your deleted comment when looking at a huge list of active comments?

Make sense, anyways thanks :)

You can, maybe, think about what you are about to write and read through your comment before submitting it, in order to make sure you are not writing something you will regret after some time.
Of course, sometimes we all make mistakes and in the end, deletion would maybe be the best.
But instead you can just hide it for everyone and it should be fine then.

not everyone is the same, for some others, when they said something rude and they regretted it and they want to change to become better, it is a good thing.

but the thing is: some others are pretty self-guilty (I don't even know if that is a word) and when they have a thing to remind them of their past mistakes, they will feel guilty and ashamed of themselves.

sure it is true that only the admins (and you if you go to settings) can see it. not everyone is like that of course, but as I said, some others are, and they tend to get reminded of their past mistakes when looking at certain post or comments, and being reminded that their past mistakes are still there but just covered with a thick rug.

again, I will state that not everyone is like that and I will not judge the site's rules, but it is kinda disturbing to know that someone will feel bad because of this.

That's why you can make it not show your hidden comments.
